History

Brief History of Character: Tristan Wright was born on 20 April 1980 with all the luxuries in the world. His mother, Isabel, incapable of having anymore children due to complications initially doted upon him, smothered him with an attention that eventually waned with the months. Her energies were required elsewhere and Tristan was left to be raised by nannies who became the only playmates he truly had growing up. Nevertheless, Tristan looked up to his parents. He followed them around when he could, clinging to his father's trousers, watching wide-eyed as he exercised power. He tried his best to please them and was always on his best behavior. He was the perfect angel but he never understood why it was that his parents did not pay more attention to him.

He came to the conclusion, as he grew older, that they were simply too busy. Too powerful. Tristan resented it but he was also jealous. He wanted that kind of power, the admiration. He wanted someone to yearn for his presence as he yearned for the presence of his parents. Tristan received a small taste of that when he was finally sent to boarding school, where he used his last name and his father's power to cultivate some of his own. It was an addiction, a rush. He loved the attention and the control. It was in his teenage years that he began to appreciate the formal events he had often despised as a child. No one paid attention to children and Tristan liked attention. As a teenager, he had charm and charisma and he liked the praise he received, loved being told that he was his father's son. It was exactly what he wanted.

His years at Eton were unremarkable in his estimation. Tristan had partied and had fun with the rest of his mates but he desired more than that. He wanted to be something. It was no surprise when he received his acceptance to Oxford. It was, in fact, expected. But expectations were losing their luster for Tristan. Sometimes the comparisons to his father, the ones that had once made him so happy, gave him a hollow feeling. His father was powerful, but not powerful enough. In any other country his father would have been the most powerful man there was. But wasn't he just a puppet? The thought made Tristan sick. However, he never expressed his opinions and continued to play the role of the proper son, understanding quite clearly that he had to play his cards rights.

After graduating, Tristan attempted to branch out more. Meet new people. Ones who wouldn't fall as his feet simply because of his last name. He had use for those people, of course, but he was, as always, looking for more. He was surprised to find people who shared his opinions about wizards, who encouraged them and strengthened them.

In October 2000, his father's affair came to light. Tristan, humiliated and angry, cut off communication with him. He couldn't believe that the man would stoop so low, that he would hurt his wife that way, and worst of all, that he would actually get caught. He should have known better, done better. Tristan, unable to forgive his father, moved out of the family home and into his own flat. He lost all respect for the man, though it did not stop him from taking an internship at Parliament. Despite his anger and sense of betrayal, Tristan knew that he had to use what he had to his advantage. And he would, so that one day he could teach his father a lesson and wizardkind would learn its rightful place.

Personality

By all appearances Tristan is a friendly, charming man. He is, by all means, a politician's son. His easy, charismatic smile can lure others into a false sense of security and that is exactly what he is after. Tristan knows how to please people and what to say to keep them happy and although it's not an enjoyable task, he is never hesitant to do so. Tristan has no problem walking up to a crowd or randomly joining a conversation. He makes friends easily, though not the same can be said in return. He knows what to say to make people like him, but he is wary of ever trusting anyone himself. This stems from issues with his father and the general loneliness of his childhood, when true, meaningful connections with others were often lacking. He finds it difficult to truly, deeply connect with others. He is cold and most of his interactions are only superficial.

Tristan has come to realize that his number one priority is himself and he is not ashamed. Although he loves his family and cares for them deeply, he's learned throughout the years that he is the one person who will never let him down. He cannot count on anyone else. Tristan is ambitious and sets his sights high. He is a confident man, with no doubts about what he can achieve. The only questions are how he can get there. He is not afraid of hard work and dedication, but he will take a shortcut when one becomes available. There is no shame in taking the easy way out when possible, as long as it's thought through carefully. The only thing that Tristan truly fears is making a mistake, an irreversible one, but even that will not stop him from eventually going through with whatever he sets his mind to.

Ambitious, like his father, Tristan is manipulative and selfish. He will use people when he needs to, all the while making them believe that what they are doing is what they want to do. He is selfish and even his initial involvement in PAM stemmed partially from the idea that wrongs had been committed against him. By society, by his father, by Grindelwald. There is no mistake -- Tristan believes in the cause, but his main motivation in joining was not helping people, but instead helping himself. The organization is an outlet where he could be exactly who he wants to be without the disgusting pretenses he always has to put up for society in his everyday life. His ambition also means that he is shallow and narcissistic. He needs people to regard him highly and look to him for guidance. For that reason, he finds himself in an odd place with PAM, where he is more of a follower than a leader. And though is frustrates Tristan, he cannot give up the place where he finally feels that he can truly be himself. He knows that his ambitions and desires are acceptable in this community.

Tristan is a strong, stubborn man who will not let much phase him. His morals are questionable -- mostly because he realizes that there are some things that must simply be done in life. He finds lying and easy task and tells people what they want to hear, even when he doesn't believe the words coming out of his mouth. He will cheat people and hurt them as long as there is something to gain. His ultimate concern is advancing his own goals, and ultimately, amassing power. This does not mean that Tristan is incapable of caring for others. It simply means that he has a price and there a very, very few people who count as an exception.

Finally, Tristan is hypocritical and does not always tolerate ambivalence and immorality in others. He is judgmental and critical, especially of people whom he expects more from, especially his father, despite their many similarities. He holds others to a much higher standard than himself, even if he thinks he is above them all. Tristan is narrow-minded and unwilling to listen to reason once his mind has been made up. If he doesn't like what you have to say he will ignore it unless he absolutely has to. Deep down, Tristan is very spoiled and somewhat petulant. He doesn't when things don't go his way, and he is not above complaining to people he feels he can trust. With others, he will keep up the facade and continue to present himself as the perfect, supportive son.
